Value under 25p? Quite Possibly
Do you ever look at your portfolio wondering how you can increase your profit without a hefty outlay? This Football Index cheap players list gives you five under 25p who have a chance of giving you a decent return.
Yes, we know these are long shots. A question to ponder though; what else does 25p buy you?
Number 5. Angus Gunn, £0.20
It wasn’t too long ago that Southampton keeper Gunn was in the England squad. He never made it onto the pitch though. He earned that call up after some solid performances at club level but his role in that 9-0 drubbing at the hands of Leicester saw him lose his number 1 spot at St Mary’s. At 20p though, he’s arguably worth a gamble. If he gets back in the Saints team then a scenario developing where he sneaks into the Euro squad isn’t an impossibility given the lack of a clear Three Lions number 1. If that happens his price will be considerably higher than it is now.
Number 4. Renato Tapia, £0.22
Tapia is a Peruvian international who plays his club football for Feyenoord. The 24-year-old, who had an unsuccessful trial with Liverpool as a teenager, is a combative holding midfielder that prides himself on winning back possession. Once on the ball he simply recycles it to more talented teammates to do what they do. His contract is up in the summer with his next stop unknown. He’s not going to get a mega move but Real Betis have been linked. That move could aid a reasonable increase, particularly if he gets regular game time.
Number 3. Daler Kuzyaev, £0.23
Kuzyaev looks destined to leave Zenit in the summer after failing to hold down a regular starting place for the first time in three seasons. He predominantly plays in central midfield but can play on either flank too and whilst he’s often praised for his defensive work, he was involved in a goal every 3.7 matches across the 2017/18 and 2018/19 campaigns. At 27, it remains to be seen if a club in Europe’s top five leagues will take him, even on a free. He does have a host of experience though. Games in the Champions League, Europa League and World Cup finals isn’t something everyone can boast.
Number 2. Jurgen Damm, £0.11
The penultimate name in our Football Index cheap players list is Jurgen Damm. Damm, 27, has spent his entire career in Mexico where he’s also represented the national side. The right winger was once labelled the second quickest player in the world with a dribbling speed of 22mph. Damm plays for Tigres but looks set to leave with strong rumours linking him with a European move. Roma have been very loosely mentioned but it’s Besiktas emerging as favourites to sign him with several teams in the MLS due to miss out. If he ends up at Vodafone Park and the Turkish side qualify for Europe again then one good performance could be enough for Damm to grow into a profitable position.
Number 1. Luca Zidane, £0.22
A famous parent doesn’t make you a good player but it helps headlines, which will encourage others to buy. Thankfully, Zinedine Zidane’s son Luca is a half decent prospect in his own right too. He’s on the books at Real Madrid but spent last year on loan at Racing Santander where he recorded six clean sheets in 37. Despite Racing facing relegation, Zidane has been steady between the sticks. Next year, Real see Zidane potentially joining a La Liga – or at worst a top end second tier – club on a temporary basis. Rumours of an Algeria call up – who he qualifies for through grandparents – is gaining traction too.
There you have it, five Football Index cheap players for you to ponder. We know they might be the Index equivalent to David Beckham beating Neil Sullivan from 50 yards but for less than 25p surely you expected nothing more than some long shots?
