Match result: Roma to win
Roma’s form makes for very attractive reading at this early stage of the season with the club having won four of four in all competitions; their performances have been good too. Sassuolo haven’t made a bad start either though and will be pleased with the four points from six they’ve amassed. We think their unbeaten start to the campaign will end in game week three though. There was literally nothing to choose between the sides last year as they drew both head to heads and finished the season on the same points (62); Roma are a different beast now though. They have a real intensity and cutting edge going forwards and that will see them to maximum points here.
Total Goals: Over 2.5
Next up in our tips selection is for the match to contain a minimum of three goals. Roma have hit the over 2.5 mark in each of their last five games striking up a rather impressive match average of 3.8 goals. Sassuolo do not have the same set of convincing stats with just two of their last five passing 2.5 but they do still hold a game average in that time of 2.6. You can also look to the head to head record as well; the last five meetings have served up a total of 16 goals; that’s an average of 3.2.
Anytime scorer: Lorenzo Pellegrini
With our final prediction we back Lorenzo Pellegrini to find the back of the net when Sassuolo come to town. The Italy midfielder is already a clear favourite under Jose Mourinho and with his current form it’s obvious why. He’s playing great football and has chipped in with three goals and an assist in the four competitive matches Roma have played under their new boss. Two of those goals came last time out so you can rest assured that Pellegrini will be brimming with confidence if anything drops his way in and around the box.
Roma vs Sassuolo prediction: Recent form and team news
When you consider the form Jose Mourinho’s Roma have been showing the international break came at the wrong time for them. In all competitions they’ve lost just once in 10 matches and in competitive games have looked a really strong outfit; solid at the back and dangerous going forwards. They do have some fitness concerns at the back ahead of this match though with Gianluca Mancini, Chris Smalling and Roger Ibanez all unlikely to feature whilst Riccardo Calafiori come in at left back with Matias Vina having suffered a knock too.
Sassuolo won’t be disappointed with their start to the Serie A campaign either. Their form is decent with their last competitive defeat coming back in May at the hands of Juventus. That said, there could be concerns brewing that they’ve failed to score in their last two matches. Jeremie Boga could aid that side of things; he turned down a move to Crystal Palace and is a threat from wide positions.
