Five under £1 to boost your portfolio

With any form of investment, the key to sustained success is having a spread of futures. To get to that level on the index could see you part with an eye watering sum of money. Not with these players though. Here we provide you some tips that look at players under £1. They will diversify your portfolio and, quite possibly, give you some Football Index PB wins along the way.

Number 5. Josh Sargent, £0.91

It’s easy to look at Sargent’s stats (three goals, two assists in 18 2019/20 Bundesliga appearances and an average PB score of a measly 19) and be dismissive of his potential. We suggest you don’t judge him on that. For one, those 18 appearances for Werder Bremen have only seen Sargent play more than an hour on nine occasions. A fair chunk of that time has been spent out wide when he’d rather be playing through the middle. Secondly, it’s likely he’ll feature more heavily next season as loan players leave and Claudio Pizarro grows another year older. At 20, Sargent already has 12 international caps – and five goals – to his name. The United States are placing a lot of future ambition on his shoulders. We expect Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt to do the same.

Number 4. Denzel Dumfries, £0.88

Dumfries is a near ever present in the PSV defence and he’s proven himself to be a real attacking threat having bagged 12 goals and 11 assists in 83 matches. That form earned him call up to the Dutch national side. That’s a bonus with the Euros ahead but the reason he’s on our list is because bigger clubs are now sniffing around. Arsenal and AC Milan are rumoured to be interested and even if those links don’t bear fruit then it’s only a matter of time until the 23 year old finds himself in one of the major leagues.

Number 3. Enock Mwepu, £0.73

Mwepu isn’t the first name off the tongue when you think of RB Leipzig – why would he be with Haaland and Daka stealing the headlines – which is why he’s available at such a reasonable price. Leipzig might be an attacking force but at the base of their midfield they have the physical presence that is Mwepu. The Zambian international is a box-to-box midfielder that is the ultimate team player. He excels at ball recovery and in an attacking sense it’s all about his movement to open space for his teammates. They are rare qualities to find in a 22 year old. With several big sides on the lookout for a player of that mould it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him move to one of the top five leagues in the near future. All that and an average Football Index PB score of 91 solely from European games too.

Number 2. Evan Ndicka, £0.88

Ndicka is only 20 years old, which is particularly young given he’s a centre back, but he’s established himself as a key part of Eintracht Frankfurt’s back line since joining from Auxerre in 2018. He now looks set for a big move. He’s a physical presence and dominates in aerial battles but he’s very comfortable with the ball at his feet and likes to play. Something which is crucial given how most top teams like to build nowadays. The one thing missing from Ndicka’s CV is full international honours. He has represented France at every youth level between Under 16 and Under 21 with a full cap surely not too far away. A move to a more prominent club will likely give his profile a boost too. Arsenal and Liverpool are said to be watching closely – his price could explode.

Number 1. Chimy Avila, £0.91

Chimy – or Ezequiel as he’s known on the Index – has huge growth potential with his current price almost inexplicable. At this moment he’s sidelined with a cruciate injury but his performances for Osasuna had attracted the attention of Barcelona prior to that unfortunate injury. A bigger club is bound to come calling as soon as he proves his fitness again. Even with that injury, this term Avila has bagged 11 goals and laid on a further three for his team but it’s his all round game that impresses. He has a tireless work ethic and can score goals from anywhere with either thunderous strikes or clever flicks. Avila already has two Football Index PB wins to his name and bigger things undoubtedly await the 26 year old. When and where remains unknown.
