Five uncapped English players set for debuts

If there is one thing that guarantees a price increase on Football Index then it’s uncapped English players earning a call up. With that in mind, where better to invest your cash than in five players who you can expect to make their international bows in the coming months.

Number 5. Kalvin Phillips, £2.05

If anyone outside of the top tier deserves an England cap then it’s Leeds’ midfield lynchpin Kalvin Phillips. The 24 year old has been improving consistently over the past few years and from a pretty high base level too. It goes against him that he only has convincing evidence of dictating games at Championship level. He’s easily good enough to play in the Premier League and – with the exception of Jordan Henderson – who else have England got for the deeper midfield role?

Number 4. Brandon Williams, £1.89

Ben Chilwell has the left back spot nailed down under Gareth Southgate. Even so, the emergence of 19 year old Williams at Manchester United will have been huge news to the England gaffer who has seen his pool of talented left sided defenders dwindle in recent times. Luke Shaw, Williams’ teammate, is probably the other in the frame for that position but the likes of Danny Rose and Aaron Cresswell seem to be way down the pecking order. That means Williams has a huge opportunity in front of him.

Number 3. Harvey Barnes, £2.20

Barnes is known at under 20 and 21 level where he has 14 caps under his belt but his displays under Brendan Rodgers at Leicester have transformed him from a youngster with potential to a top level threat. He’s no Jadon Sancho but an involvement in 12 goals – six goals, six assists – across 29 Premier League appearances and three PB wins isn’t something you can turn a blind eye to. With years ahead of him, you have to expect his end product to get even better too.

Number 2. Jack Grealish, £5.56

It was only 12 months ago that Grealish found himself in a similar position to Phillips; he was bossing games in the Championship and people felt a call up was just around the corner. It never came but he’s continued to dictate games for Aston Villa in the top tier with seven goals and six assists, which means Southgate would have to be mad not to get him in the squad to see how his performances change with the genuine top class players on his side. He’s already had seven top three finishes in the media buzz rankings as well. With a move to a bigger club and an England call up on the horizon it’s likely there will be plenty more of those coming his way.

Number 1. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, £2.24

Calvert-Lewin had long looked like a man who wouldn’t fulfil his blatant potential at Everton. but under the guidance of Duncan Ferguson and then Carlo Ancelotti his fortunes have transformed as he scored 10 in 14 making him a shoo-in for the Euro 2020 squad. That’s now on the backburner and he’ll likely have to play second fiddle to Harry Kane at the 2021 tournament but he’ll definitely get a chance to show his worth at the next set of fixtures and at 23 he could be part of the set up for a long time to come.

There you have it, five uncapped English players who have an international career ahead of them. Who do you think will see the biggest price hike over the next few months? Let us know below.
